The topic of the third Art Jam concludes a trilogy - from Touch to Change/Growth - which leads to Clarity. This process mirrors in everything.
First and foremost it is a reference to how we connect with each other as a community and learn and inspire each other to grow. Thus with the first topic Touch we describe the meeting of souls and minds.
With the second topic Metamorphosis (change and growth) we inspire and learn from each other.
And sometimes, in between the learning and the struggling, we are lucky enough to encounter moments of Clarity. Where the air feels fresh and we feel like we can breathe easily and see things from a new perspective, a new level of consciousness.
Please don't let this explanation influence how to tackle the theme, draw your own conclusions to express your perspective on what Clarity represents for you.
“Sometimes in life, you find yourself being in a certain situation that makes your soul suffer. First, you just can't, nor would you even want to accept it. You might try to deny it and hide in the dark corners of your inner self. But after all, these detours won't get you anywhere helpful. The true key to get you out of this maze of dark emotions and suffering, is acceptance. But acceptance is a progress and takes time and patience - you could never really fake it. So: you got to be brave and take the long way through foggy and desolate wastelands in order to find clarity, acceptance and finally: inner peace.”

"There it was-her picture. Yes, with all its greens and blues, its lines running up and across, its attempt at something. It would be hung in the attics, she thought; it would be destroyed. But what did that matter? she asked herself, taking up her brush again. She looked at the steps; they were empty; she looked at her canvas; it was blurred. With a sudden intensity, as if she saw it clear for a second, she drew a line there, in the centre. It was done; it was finished. Yes, she thought, laying down her brush in extreme fatigue, I have had my vision."
― Virginia Woolf, To The Lighthouse
“Upon acknowledgement and understanding of the contest theme, I was stumbled upon confusion. So I started writing down the words that were either meaningful or confusing on a personal level. With primitive language matched with colors representing my emotions attached to the words, I no longer see the words that shape my consciousness but the colors that represent my subconsciousness. Thank you for organizing, viewing, and reading my submission; I had so much fun.”

“Lost in the immensity of the world, beneath our thundering human towers, nature continues with instinctual purpose. We need but lie down and listen to the whispers of the wind sweep away our cerebral entropy. And to see, with nature’s clarity, the tiniest of creatures, an ant, on a summer day’s glimmering leaf, move forward with unshaken drive, one step at a time. “

“A rope in a trashcan. Showing someone had the ‘clarity’ to choose life.“
― trinculosart
“When I think of clarity, I think of the phrase “a moment of clarity” and to me, when someone has a moment of clarity, it can be emotional. It can be happy or sad, and for this I wanted it to be more of a good moment of clarity. I made her crying to show how impactful this moment of clarity is to her, almost like a light had been turned on for her. I could go on and on about what I wish I’d done better but this was just for fun so I’ll let you enjoy it!”

“Mixed media (acrylics and glued paper, and leaves), A3 size.
Somewhat hesitating between clarity being a good thing (warm light, symbol of knowledge and truth) and ignorance of it (truth can sometimes be crual, knowledge can be a burden...) remaining in the darkness can sometimes look like a better option, this "in between position" allows the traveller to observe and decide if he realy wants to go further, or remain in his friendly full of life darknesses.”

“The idea of how great something should be is forged in the world of dreams. There the ideal is not only possible but inevitable, a simplified generalization is the only way to handle the ever moving whirl that is our subconscious. We have no choice but to trust our dreams to keep us going, the alternative is spiraling into infinite details and with that an endless uncertainty. Chipping away at the rock that is our world one single small sliver moment after moment to move the sculptures shape closer and closer to our vision.“

“When you hold your child in your arms for the first time, there is an epiphany of clarity. Clarity of purpose. Clarity of meaning. From that moment forward, all your hopes and dreams are wrapped up in that little bundle cradled in your arms. “

“an estimated 18 billion pounds of plastic waste makes its way into the oceans every year from coastal regions. that equals five grocery bags of plastic trash sitting on every coastline around the world or emptying a garbage truck full of plastics into the ocean every minute. 40% of plastic produced is packaging - used just once and then discarded. americans use almost one plastic shopping bag per day. less than a fifth of all plastic made in the world is recycled. almost a million plastic beverage bottles are sold every minute around the world - with americans purchasing about 346 bottles per person in 2015. it is estimated that by 2050, there will be more plastics in the oceans than fish, by weight.
i wanted to depict many narratives around the theme "clarity", in this piece - the transparency of the plastics, the clarity of the ocean, and how the plastics affect the clarity of the water. the distinct emotion in the eye as it observes the plight of the oceans. the solutions are so clear, yet the willingness of humankind to do what is needed is unclear. and with that, the future of our oceans, the life within them, and the lives that depend on them, remains clouded.

“"Be just, and justify your actions. Breathe deep and walk upright. Lead and never follow. Love the people, be of the people. Humble yourself and pray. History ... remembers kings." –K.R.I.T.
I find myself returning to this quote from one of my favorite musicians when searching for clarity. To me, it's about living in such a way that the people who I hold dear and will always remember are inspired to do the same of me.
I painted this abstract portrait of K.R.I.T. with the above quote in mind, primarily focusing on shapes. I tried to implement heart and crown shapes around the face, particularly near the eye, as a tribute to this art jam's theme, clarity.“
